Z-ombie Apocalypse - Mark Feygin's War is a third-person shooter in the Survival Horror genre, filled with allegorical and satirical references to the broader theme of the Russian invasion of Ukraine as a whole, as well as to the role that Mark Feygin and the guests of his YouTube channel (@FeyginLive) play in the information war surrounding this event and its geopolitical consequences.
The game unfolds across three distinct realms steeped in Kremlin propaganda.
- Dive into the Television World, where state-controlled media created a massive zombification machine for the Z-masses. It is run by everybody's “favorite” TV presenters in form of Z-ombie Bosses (more on them below).
- Enter the Virtual World, a digital landscape fraught with misinformation and controlled by the notorious so called "war correspondents", where players must navigate through a maze of fake news and cyber warfare.
- Finally, brace yourself for the Kremlin Itself, the heart of it all, where shadowy corridors and secretive chambers hold the real power behind the propaganda machine. This world is controlled by Baldy’s [Mark's term for Putin] gang itself, with him at its head.
Each world presents unique challenges and missions, blending reality and illusion in a high-stakes battle for the truth.
Welcome to Constantine's Army Surplus, your ultimate pit stop for all things combat-ready. This is where our heroes upgrade their arsenal or patch up after a tough battle. Here's what for sale:
- Advanced Weapons: Upgrade your firepower with the latest in military technology.
- Ammunition Resupply: Never run out of bullets in the heat of battle.
- Medical Supplies: Stay in fighting shape with a range of health kits and medical gear.
- Tactical Gear: Equip yourself with top-of-the-line tactical gear for any mission.
During the game, Feygin finds and can activate his reliable companions: Olena, Andrei Andreich, and Berezovets.
- Each companion has unique abilities and its own set of weapons, which can be updated in the Army Surplus store.
- Companions can be found by switching the Zombie-Box to the correct channel (there is only one correct channel).
- Companions can be used in special situations, when their personal qualities are most suitable for solving it, or to give Feygin the opportunity to rest and gain strength.
Unfortunately, there are plenty of them. Fortunately, all of them can be shot, chopped, and disposed of in other creative ways.
The game features various kinds of Z-ombies: vatniks [pro-Putin dumbasses], gopniks [Soviet-style thugs], drunks, and "Crimea-is-ours" broads. As you progress, more dangerous Z-ombies appear, including SMO [so called Special Military Operation] returnees like chmobiks [partially mobilized], prisoners, and Wagnerites. Each level’s Z-ombies are controlled by a Z-ombie Boss, starting with simonian and ending with Baldy himself (more on him later). Z-ombie boxes, found throughout the game, constantly spawn new Z-ombies, so you must locate them and switch to the correct channel (there’s only one: Feygin Live).
The goal of each level is to survive the waves of Z-ombies and ultimately find and kill the Z-ombie Boss in a final boss battle.
In addition to the dangerous Z-ombies and their bosses, the propaganda worlds are filled with buffoons who bully but pose no real threat (think medvedevs, kadyrovs, and lukashenkas). Shooting these buffoons grants a bunch of Likes, which you can use to buy useful goodies at the Army Surplus.
The ultimate goal of the game is to track down and eliminate Baldy. A little twist: neither task is straightforward. Baldy makes his grand entrance at the game's climax, but also pops up in various levels, either as himself or represented by one of his many doubles.
Be warned: catching Baldy won't be easy. He's a slippery son-of-a-bitch, and he's got rats for friends.
