Foundations is a set of mathematical games designed to support adult learners who will benefit from developing their understanding of the key ideas underpinning the number system.
Many adults working at low levels of numeracy have missed some of these important ideas; the games in this app aim to make sure that all learners have the firm foundations on which further developments in numeracy can be built.
Based on extensive research, the games all use a structured representation of number which highlights important features such as odd and even numbers, number bonds and addition, two-digit numbers, and making totals.
All of the games are suitable for learners of any age. Although our main aim has been to provide age-appropriate activities for adult learners, the same approaches will also work well for children encountering the same mathematical ideas for the first time.
